Paws Inn Resort in the News!

One of our Paws Inn Family Members, Mary Sears, is featured in an article for Twin Cities Metro Magazine about her work as a Puppy Raiser for the Hearing and Service Dogs of Minnesota (HSDM).  She has attended classes at Paws Inn with her past dog, Elmer, and is back with her new dog, Wiggs.

We are very proud of Mary and
all the work she does with HSDM!

Way to go Mary!

A New Year with A New Outlook

Did you make yourself a New Years Resolution?

Like millions of us, one of the top ones are get healthy and start losing weight. We always say, we are going to start  the first of the year.

We want you to consider making that same resolution for your pet. Make 2010 the year to get your pet healthy!

Many of our pets are given a poor quality of food and treats without knowing what the ingredients are in each bag.  We look to the TV for what is supposed to be good for our pets.  We see many great commercials that say "Our food is the best!"  Have you taken a few minutes to actually stop and read the packaging and see what is actually in these "best" foods?

Paws Inn Resort has and we want to share with you some important things you need to know!  We want you to STOP looking at these commercials and START looking at the ingredients.  Many of the "bigger name brand" foods are not what they should be.  We will not be naming names, but TRUST US, you may be disappointed.  We have done some research and talked with a nutritionist and have found out what you SHOULD be looking for in your pet food.

1.  PROTEIN such as Chicken, Lamb, Beef, Salmon, and Venison.  This should be your #1 ingredient.
You should also look for Meals such as Chicken Meal as this is that great protein just minus the water, making it more dense but still has all the important nutrients.

2. Grains, Rice, and Vegetables.  These should be following up your protein in the #2 and #3 spots.

3.  Anything Organic for obvious reasons. These ingredients have not been processed and broken down and possibly stripped of some pretty important nutrients.

STAY AWAY FROM THE FOLLOWING!

1.  The word "BY-PRODUCT".  This could ANY part of the animal.  We want the protein not the other parts of an animals body.

2. CORN!  It is used as a filler.  Dogs cannot break it down, so it just goes right through them like it does our bodies.  It is not giving them anything beside filling up their bellies.  Corn is sometimes one of the top ingredients in these "big named brand" foods...YIKES!

3.  Artificial sweetners, flavors, and colors.  Dogs do not care what color their food is, and are already sweet enough.  They do not need any more sugar.

4.  BHT and BHA.  These are used as preservatives, but are actually a carcinogen.

Finding a quality food is where you are going to find your path to a healthy lifestyle for your pet.  You are going to find many changes in your pet.

1. Fewer ear infections
2.  Less scratching
3. Shiny and healthy looking coat
4. Decrease in food allergies
5. Better overall appearance of your pet

We worry so much about what we put in our bodies...why not do the same for our pets.
They deserve it!  It is worth the switch!

If you want more information, or want to learn more about what healthy foods are available, contact Paws Inn Resort today and we will get you onto accomplishing that New Year Resolution!
