January is a start of the new year. With all new years, we make resolutions. Here is one you can make to your pet - better joint health.
We are focusing this month on what we can do for our pets to keep them active.
Joint problems/ arthritis affects older dogs, as well as specific breeds such as German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, and other active dogs. We can’t exclude small dogs even though they have less of a problem. They are not to be over looked.
Some signs of arthritis in dogs
Slow or stiffness when getting up especially in the morning
Slow or reluctant to go on walks
Limping or stiffness when walking
Change in attitude especially when playing
Research is finding that it is a good idea to start on a supplement before you notice problems. This will help maintain joint health. Check out our website, www.pawsinnresort.com, for what you can do for your pet if showing signs of arthritis.
Sometime things happen slowly, and you may not even notice there has been a change. This is what happened with my Golden Retriever, Trooper. I just thought he is getting older, and may no longer play as long now. Little did I know that he was having problems until one day, he refused to do some agility obstacles. It then became obvious that something was going on. He was young, only 6 years old, when I took him into our Vet and had x-rays. This way I could rule out any problems, but our Vet told us arthritis was setting into his lower spine. This is NOT what an owner wants to hear. I started looking into an alternative anti-inflammatory. I started with essential oils, supplements, and acupuncture. WOW! What a difference! He started to play again! It wasn't until then when I truly saw how much it had affected him. Now he is doing great! The continuation of the combination of supplements, exercise, and good food keeps him going strong!
