REMEM-BRRRR:
Dogs are vulnerable in frigid weather!
- Short-coated and dogs low to the ground freeze faster
- Ears, toes, and tail tips can get frostbite
- Ice-melting chemicals are very hard on dog paws
- Shivering is an early sign of hypothermia
So, what should you do?
- Buy a coat for your dog to keep his body core warmer
- If ears, paws, and tail are cold to the touch, re-warm them gradually
- Protect dog pads with boots or rub baby oil into them. Keeping nails trimmed and foot hairs short helps reduce ice clumps between toes
- Bring "outside" dogs indoors if the temps or wind chills are sub-zero
